Frequently Asked Questions
You may have questions about how a weekly food basket program works. We’ve tried to put together all the answers you may need. If you still have questions, please email Alana@clearwaterfarms.ca.
Will I receive a basket each week?
Yes. During the term of the basket program that you sign up for, your weekly basket will be delivered to either the pick-up site that you selected, or to your home if you requested home delivery service. For “Full Season” customers, baskets will be delivered weekly from early June to November 3rd. For “Summer Season” customers, from early June to Labour Day. And so forth.
How do I plan my regular shopping so I don’t double up on items you may give me?
No later than three days before your delivery day each week, we will send you an email with a specific description of the contents of your weekly basket. You will also be given a link to our marketplace of weekly specials that you can choose to add to your order.
What kinds of fruit and vegetables will I get each week?
We will gather together a large range of seasonal fruits and vegetables for your eating pleasure. Everything from radishes, peas, beans, heirloom tomatoes, fingerling potatoes & butternut squash…. as well as apples, strawberries, peaches, and lots in between.
I don’t want 5 pounds of kale each week
Don’t worry! We know a large amount of one type of produce can be overwhelming. We aim to provide you with 9-12 different items in your box each week. We’ve made a special effort this year to diversify our offerings more than last year.
What if I don’t like eggplant (or beans or peppers)
It is not possible for us to make individual substitutions to the basic weekly basket. However, any particular item will only be a small part of any individual basket, and only for 2-3 weeks throughout a season. In addition, we plan to have a “trade” box at each pick up site so that individuals can swap a vegetable that they do not like for something that someone else didn’t like.
Where do I pick up my weekly basket?
You will pick up your weekly basket at the location that you select during Step 1 of your initial sign-up process. This year, we will offer over 10 sites from Toronto, to Lake Simcoe to Georgian Bay, and this number will only grow. However, with at least a week’s prior notice, if (for example) you choose to normally pick up your order at the cottage, but one weekend know that you will stay in Toronto, you can ask us to deliver your basket temporarily to a different pick up site. Contact Alana@clearwaterfarms.ca to arrange for this.
What if I can’t pick up my basket on a particular week?
To begin with, if you sign up for at least an 8 week season and pay in advance, you will get one free weekly basket – which means that if you cannot pick up your basket on a particular week, you will not have missed anything. However, with a minimum of one week’s prior notice, we can accommodate you in the following ways. You can choose to send a friend/family member to pick up on your behalf; you can pick up your order at another of our pick-up locations; or you can donate your weekly basket to our community charity that will ensure that the food gets to someone who needs it.
Can I get extra beans/tomatoes/squash?
Yes! You will get a weekly email from us several days before your pick up day that describes exactly what will be in your weekly basket. This email will also describe weekly specials that are available for purchase via our online marketplace. These will include forested pork/bacon/ham, free range eggs, forested mushrooms, etc. Assuming you place your order online 36 hours before your delivery day, we will pack your additional items for delivery with your weekly basket.
How do I pay?
We prefer that you place your order(s) online using Visa or Mastercard. If you need to make other payment arrangements, please contact Alana@clearwaterfarms.ca. Weekly add-on purchases must be paid for online.
I’m worried I won’t be able to make use of everything you send me!
We know that getting a regular weekly delivery of the garden’s bounty can be overwhelming. We will include recipes each week for cooking with the contents of your box, tips for storing it properly, and ideas to preserve your harvest. Our “Recipes” tab on the website will become a store for relevant recipes over time so that you have access to recipes sourced from the ClearWater community.
